May Editorial
So far we’ve stoically endured the cold: radiators switching back on (much to environmentalists’ dismay), coats and scarves for going out, and heavy snowfalls in the mountains (where the ski lifts have been closed for ages). But enough is enough. Saying it hasn’t been a warm spring is an understatement, yet come May we must be optimistic, because it’s the month of ceremonies: from Mother’s Day to confirmations, communions, graduations, and early weddings—a season that calls for milder weather so we can show off our favorite pieces: silk dresses!
Many of you ask us for advice on the perfect outfit for each occasion, and we’re ready to give you all the answers and suggestions so you never get your look wrong.
For Mother’s Day, I’ll tell you right away that there will be a dedicated drop—so you never forget to give a gift to the most important person in our lives (which is usually Mom!)—so follow us on social media for a surprise.
For confirmations and baptisms (and let’s hope a few more children arrive in our increasingly aging Italy), the advice is always not to overdo it. Soft, pastel, or dusty shades like blue and tobacco pink are perfect: the midi Trani model in sky blue with petal sleeves or a shirtdress like the Taranto—in polka-dot silk or solid-color cotton—are especially appropriate.
For weddings, we have an endless choice of long dresses—more formal or more romantic depending on whether the ceremony is in the morning or afternoon. The Como shirt-dress in shiny satin flatters everyone; you’ll find it in marron glacé or cream, depending on whether you prefer darker or lighter tones. The Castel del Monte in green chiffon fil coupé with silver is suited to a more bucolic, less formal setting; the Santacangelo in Habotai—with two print variations in green and caramel, long but open sleeves—is perfect for church ceremonies, as is the Ivrea model, with a sleeker shape and side slits. To stand out—especially if you have a starring role at the wedding—I suggest the Vieste in ombré chiffon or the Beatrice d’Este, both with veils that cover the shoulders. If you love bright colors, the Sant’Agata in orchid with a halter neckline and soft ruffles around the neck and skirt is the right choice, adding a touch of sensuality to an unforgettable outfit. The San Severo in sable silk in a luminous blue, with a jewel-buttoned neckline, is perfect for the mother of the bride or groom: extremely elegant and chic.
Finally, many young women ask what to wear for their graduation. A silk blouse—white or colored—is always an elegant, winning choice, perhaps paired with an easy skirt like the Locorotondo in slightly flared printed silk with a drawstring waist. But if you feel more comfortable in trousers, that works too.
The most important thing to wear when defending your thesis isn’t the outfit but the awareness of having achieved a major goal, the joy of making it this far, and the excitement for future projects. So you need not only the right look but also the pride, maturity, and determination to begin a beautiful new chapter in your life. Congratulations to all the new graduates!
