Aprile Editorial
April is one of my favorite months. You can smell something different in the air—perhaps because it’s officially spring, the sky is so much bluer, and often a breeze tosses your hair and makes you pop your collar for warmth—yet the thrilling feeling is that winter (what little there was) is over and the most beautiful time of the year is beginning: a season of awakening and promise. April is the month for making plans, organizing Easter (at home or away—it’s always a celebration), and checking the calendar for possible long weekends, and this year we couldn’t be better placed! Even if you end up going nowhere, it’s fine… you rest, you tidy your closets, because never more than at this time of year do we feel the urge to wear something new and special. Indeed, April is when wedding invitations arrive, communions and confirmations are planned, and (for some odd reason) there are so many birthdays—more occasions to celebrate… in short, it’s the perfect month to treat yourself to something that makes you happy. After all, let’s be honest, buying a dress, a bag, or a pair of shoes serves this frivolous yet perfectly valid purpose!
During the weeks of Crida’s pop-up at Rinascente Milan, Daniela and I met so many friends who, in anticipation of an event, wanted to choose the perfect outfit, and we had such fun introducing the new summer collection and recommending the ideal pieces for every occasion. There are the polka-dot dresses à la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman that make any guest at a ceremony effortlessly chic. The Beatrice d’Este, in blush pink or pearl grey, with georgette veils at the back were chosen by mothers of the bride or groom—covered shoulders in church, fabulous at the reception—just like the Bellaria in luminous sky-blue satin, made for a birthday debutante or bridesmaid. None of these dresses will stop you from enjoying the party. You know our mission is to create elegant dresses you can wear all day: bright colors in our Italian silks, gentle elastics at the waist, and soft sleeves with perfect cuffs. If you’re looking for a countryside event look, the Santarcangelo in chiffon with its lace-inspired print in two stunning colorways is the right choice: ultra-light but with dramatic chromatic effect. And then there’s the Cento dress in orange or yellow silk—slim-line, front-buttoned, always with pockets for extra comfort. And if you want to dazzle with a touch of sex appeal, there are the long San Marino dresses, with a sensual, soft silk crossover bodice and an open back.
For us at Crida, April is packed with important engagements taking us all over Italy in our dresses: we’re delighted and honored to be in Turin at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo to present the upcoming winter collection dedicated to Piedmont. And don’t forget, from April 18th to 23rd it’s Salone del Mobile in Milan again—the capital of design and fashion—and then between May and June we’ll be in Tuscany and Rome. We’ll keep you updated via our newsletter (if you haven’t signed up yet, do it now!), and we hope to meet you to share our passion for beautiful, well-made garments. It’s April: the best time to treat yourself to a Crida.
